Deacon Ben Brown

February 9, 1941 — January 14, 2025

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand. (Psalm 37:23-24)

On Tuesday, January 14, 2025, Deacon Ben Brown was called home to be with the Lord. The Lord called him to a place of no sickness, pain or suffering, but to a place of rest.

Ben Brown was born February 9, 1941, to Mr. Ollie Brown and Ella (Lane) King in Isola, MS. He confessed a faith in Christ Jesus at an early age. As a young child, he also served as the pastor’s assistant at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor L. R. Chandler.

He was a very caring, determined and ambitious young man, who worked hard to help his widowed mother provide for his younger brothers and sisters.

In 1963, he met Lena Young, the love of his life who preceded him in death on October 4, 2006. Three years later, in the spring of 1966 they were united in holy matrimony and were invited to move to Chicago by his oldest sister, Ruby Lee Lockhart and her husband James Lockhart.

After settling on the near north side of Chicago, they were blessed with two sons, Edward, and Marvin Brown. In 1983, he and his family united with Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor F. W. Hargrett where he was called to serve as a deacon.

Deacon Brown lived a life that was dedicated to Christ Jesus. He truly enjoyed studying the Holy Bible, and sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with family, friends, and strangers. One of his favorite scriptures is found in 1st Corinthians 2:9 and one of his favorite passages was Psalm 23.

He was preceded in death by his sister Mary King, and brothers Lee Jones, Willie King, Jr., Rufus King, George King, Sammie King, and the twin boys.

Deacon Brown leaves cherished memories in the hearts of sons, Ben Daniels, Edward Brown, Marvin Brown and daughter, Jodoris Daniels; 5 sisters, Ruby Lee Lockhart, Rebecca Holmes, Dency Bell Williams, Emma Cobbins and Annie Bell Jackson; two brothers, J. W. King and Cary Dale King; A daughter-in-law, Christy Brown; grand- children, Gabriel, Michael, Edward, and Christy; 6 sisters-in-law; eight brothers-in-law, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, relatives, and cherished friends.
